-
Joakim Soria (KC) has looked
like the next dominant closer in baseball. In 4 innings he has
7 strikeouts and no walks.
-
Johnny Cueto (CIN) burst upon the
scene this spring, and that continued that progress into his first
major league start when he struck out 10 and walked only 1.
-
Daisuke Matsuzaka (BOS) has now put
together 2 consecutive great starts, with 16 strikeouts in his last
13.1 innings. Walks have still been inconsistent with 5, 0 and
4 in his three starts.
-
Jered Weaver (LAA) had a great first
start and is looking like a great buy low candidate for 2008.
He has a good shot at 15 wins with the Angels, and isn't far removed
from his 105/33 k/bb rookie season in 2006.
-
Chris Young (ARI) is continuing to
strike out at a high rate, 33% so far, but with 6 of his 7 hits
going for extra bases and 8 walks in 25 at bats, things are looking
good so far.
-
Justin Upton (ARI) is making people
regret letting him drop past them in their drafts. His
strikeout rate isn't good, but he is only 20 years old, so that
isn't a surprise. He looks like for a 20/20 season.
-
Miguel Cabrera/Justin Verlander (DET)
have both had disappointing starts, but it is April 8th. If
you can buy them cheap, do so ASAP.

-
Rich Harden (OAK) has been dominant so
far. This is a tough call - if you can get him cheap he's a
good buy, but his injury history and after being pulled from his
start today, buyer-beware.
-
Jose Valverde (HOU) has had one great
season as a closer. He's struggling to start 2008 and it would
be no surprise to see him lose his job in the coming weeks.
-
Brandon Lyon (ARI) was the worst
closer coming into the 2008 season, and he's done nothing to change
my opinion.
