8/8/07
Batting
-
Jose Guillen - 4/6 with a double (17).
He is 7 for his last 10 after going 0-8 with 6 k's in the 2
immediate games after Adam Jones was called up.
-
Raul Ibanez - 3/6 with a double (27)
and 2 home runs (8). His first home run since June 23rd.
-
Ramon Hernandez - 3/4. He's been
hitting well in the last couple of weeks, going 13 for 25 with 3
doubles and 6 walks vs. only 4 strikeouts. Should be one of
the top catchers for the remainder of the season.
-
Corey Patterson - 2/5 with a steal
(30). He's hitting .363 with 11 steals since the All-Star
break, but his 4/15 bb/k ratio doesn't inspire a lot of confidence
on my end. Ride him while he's hot because it won't last.
-
Carl Crawford - 4/5. He's now
hitting over .600 in the month of August (17/28) with only 1
strikeout.
-
Jonny Gomes - 3/4 with a triple (1)
and a home run (13). He's hitting only .210 since the break,
but has 4 home runs. His 60 strikeouts in less than 200 at
bats is a concern however. Expect his average to continue to
drop.
-
Ryan Raburn - 3/4 with 2 doubles (5).
He now has a 6 game hitting streak and hasn't struck out in his last
19 at bats. A common trait amongst Tigers' hitters.
-
Shannon Stewart - 2/5 with a home run
(9). He's hitting for a nice average, and has decent speed,
but is only helpful in AL-only or deeper leagues.
-
Ian Kinsler - 2/4 with a walk.
He's rounding into form with a .333 average in August, but still no
home runs since June 24th.
-
Kurt Suzuki - 2/4 to extend his
hitting streak to 3 games. Very good plate discipline (10/12
bb/k ratio), but limited power (only 6 XBH).
-
Frank Thomas - 2/3 with his 18th
double. He's 9 for his last 20 with 3 doubles and 2 home runs.
Surprisingly, he has no walks during this time.
-
Johnny Damon - 2/2 with 2 walks and a
stolen base (20). He has 6 multi-hit games in his last 7 games
played.
-
Casey Kotchman - 2/4 with 2 doubles
(26). He now has a 7 game hitting streak, during which time he
has 4 doubles.
-
Chone Figgins - 1/4 with 2 steals
(31).
-
Mark Teahan - 4/4. He's red-hot
- 9 for his last 13 with 3 doubles. Where is the power though?
Still only 5 home runs.
-
Ryan Howard - 2/4 with 2 home runs
(32).
-
Hanley Ramirez - 2/5 with a home run
(20).
-
Edwin Encarnacion - 3/4 with a double
(12). He's 8 for his last 17 after a terrible July.
-
Todd Helton - 3/5 with 2 home runs
(11). His average is creeping back to .300.
-
Troy Tulowitzki - 2/4 with a home run
(13).
-
Garrett Atkins - 3/4 with a double
(28) to extend his hitting streak to 8 games, during which time he
has 6 extra base hits and 15 RBI.
-
Bill Hall - 2/3 with a double (28).
He hasn't homered since June 23rd.
-
Chipper Jones - 3/5 with a double (26)
and a triple (3).
-
Jeff Franceour - 4/5 with 2 doubles
(21) and a home run (13).
-
Justin Upton - 3/4 with a double (3),
triple (1) and a home run (1). Wow. Welcome to the big
leagues.
-
Jose Bautista - 2/4 with a double
(26). He's 7 for his last 22 and has doubled in 3 consecutive
games.
-
Barry Bonds - 3/3 with a double (12)
and a home run (22). The new all-time home run king.
-
Austin Kearns - 2/4 with a double (24)
and a home run (9).

Pitching
-
John Danks - 6 IP, 4 hits, 1 walk and
8 k's. A great start - the 8 k's represent a season/career
high. He's been horrible since July 1st, but could be rounding
into form. His first 3 months were solid but unspectacular.
-
Jake Westbrook - 8 IP, 2 hits, 0 walks
and 5 k's. In his last 3 starts, he's allowed only 11 hits in
21 innings with a 13/4 k/bb ratio.
-
Nate Robertson - 7.2 IP, 9 hits, 0
walks and 9 k's. Back in the first half of 2004, Robertson
looked like a potentially big strikeout pitcher, with 94 in his
first 105 innings, but since that time he's worked on refining his
control and ignoring the strikeouts. He had 46 walks in the
first half of that season for a 3.9 per 9 ratio and in his next 600+
innings he has cut that down to 2.9. His strikeouts, during
that same time period have dropped from 8.1 to 5.8.
-
Roger Clemens - 6 IP, 2 hits, 1 walk
and 6 k's. His best start in a month.
-
Joba Chamberlain - 2 IP, 1 hit, 2
walks and 2 k's. He doesn't hold much fantasy value for this
season, but keep an eye on him in 2008.
-
Brian Bannister - 7 IP, 6 hits, 1 walk
and 1 k. He's allowed only 5 earned runs in his last 28
innings while striking out only 12. He's defying convention,
but is getting by with very good control (2.3 bb/9).
-
Jake Peavy - 6 IP, 3 hits, 2 walks and
5 k's. Wins his 12th game.
-
Anthony Reyes - 7 IP, 7 hits, 1 walk
and 2 k's. He's still hurt by bad luck running his record to
1-11 to go along with his 1.33 WHIP.
-
Bronson Arroyo - 6.2 IP, 6 hits, 0
walks, 5 k's. This is nice rebound after his 1.2 inning 7
earned run effort last week.
-
Tom Gorzelanny - 7 IP, 4 hits, 2 walks
and 9 k's. A career high in strikeouts and his best
performance of the season.
8/7/07
Batting
-
Johnny Damon - 2/5. He's having
a very good 2nd half with a .389 OBP due to his 16% walk rate.
-
Melky Cabrera - 3/4 with a triple (6).
He has a 12 game hitting streak, during which time 10 extra base
hits and only 2 strikeouts (in 51 at bats).
-
Alex Rios - 2/5 to break out of a 3-17
slump.
-
J.D. Drew - 3/4. He's hitting
.197 since the break with a 28% strikeout rate. 2007 is
looking like a lost season for Boston's $15M RF.
-
Chone Figgins - 2/3 with a triple (5)
and a stolen base (29). He just keeps hitting, and has a .398
average on balls in play (BABIP) which is much higher than normal.
-
Magglio Ordonez - 3/4. He's 7
for his last 16.
-
Carlos Guillen - 3/4 with a double
(22) and a triple (7). He has struck out in each of his last 5
games, but is hitting .375 during that time.
-
Carl Crawford - 2/5 with a steal (36).
He's on fire and looks like his old self, going 15 for his last 27
with 4 steals and 10 runs scored.
-
Jhonny Peralta - 3/4 with his first
RBI since July 27th. He's now 5 for his last 11 after a 2/15
stretch. His walk rate has also taken a hit lately with only
two in his last 48 at bats after having 41 in his first 359 at bats.
-
Mike Piazza - 3/7 to break out
of a 3/20 slump.
-
Nelson Cruz - 2/5 with a walk.
He's playing regularly and is hitting .353 with 3 home runs and a
5/8 bb/k ratio since being called back up.
-
Ian Kinsler - 3/7. He hasn't hit
for much power since returning from the DL, but he has cut down on
his strikeouts.
-
Michael Young - 3/4 with a home run
(5). He's 6 for his last 12.
-
Khalil Greene - 2/4 with a double (26)
and a home run (18). He has cut down on his strikeouts lately
with only 3 in his last 26 at bats.
-
Carlos Lee - 2/3 with a home run (24).
He's on fire in August, with 4 multi hit games already and a .385
average. Having a great season with a 40/44 bb/k ratio and 55
extra base hits in 437 at bats.
-
Ryan Braun - 1/4 with a home run (21).
He has homered in 3 straight games and has a 5 game hitting streak.
He has struck out only twice during this time (23 at bats).
-
Brad Hawpe - 2/3 with a home run (19)
breaking a 2/21 slump and hitting his first home run in over 2
weeks.
-
Garrett Atkins - 2/4. Since June
1st, he's hitting .313 with 28 extra base hits and 22/32 bb/k ratio
(211 at bats).
-
Ryan Church - 2/5. He continues
to pile on the doubles (34 so far this year) but his walk rate and
home run rate have declined in the 2nd half. Could be a
sleeper for 2008.
-
Randy Winn - 4/5 to break a 3/25
slump.
Pitching
-
Curt Schilling - 6 IP, 9 hits, 0 walks
and 5 k's. First start back from the DL was ok.
-
Jered Weaver - 6 IP, 6 hits, 2 walks
and 4 k's. After two consecutive 10+ hit outings, this was a
good sign. He's looking very hittable this year - allowing 120
hits in 107 innings vs. the 94 he gave up in 123 innings during his
rookie year.
-
Justin Verlander - 6 IP, 8 hits, 0
walks and 6 k's. Verlander hasn't allowed less than 3 runs in
a start since June 23rd.
-
Paul Byrd - 9 IP, 4 hits, 1 walk and 1
k. Only 16 walks in 135 innings. The 4 hits is a shock -
he's allowed 164 in 135 innings this year and allowed 20 in his last
10 innings pitched coming into last night's game.
-
Carlos Silva - 7 IP, 6 hits, 1 walk
and 6 k's. His best strikeout performance since April.
-
Wandy Rodriguez - 8 IP, 4 hits, 2
walks and 9 k's. Another dominant home performance.
-
Rich Hill - 7 IP, 3 hits, 2 walks and
6 k's. Only the 2nd time in his last 10 outings that he has
gone at least 7 innings.
-
Tim Lincecum - 7 IP, 5 hits, 5 walks
and 8 k's. He's walked 10 in his last 13 innings.
